Inuyama Cormorant Fishing started at the time when Masachika Naruse was the Lord of Inuyama Castle, as a Cormorant fishing for the Shogun boasts a tradition of over 1300 years. Four boats go down the Kiso River fishing with Cormorants lighting the river surface red with lanterns. Each fisherman clad in an ancient costume handles 12 Cormorants to catch fishes. This leaves a deep impression on visitors as it is like seeing an illusion of a classical picture scroll. It is held from May 11 to October 15 every year.
