ANIMAL PRODUCTS IMPORT REGULATIONSRegarding Bringing Animal Products into Japan from Overseas
- Due to outbreaks of domestic animal diseases in other countries, most meat and other animal products cannot be brought into Japan.
- Please be aware that bringing items illegally into Japan will be subject to penalties.
- From April 22nd, 2019, Japan has decided to apply the penalty for illegal bringing in of meat products more stringently.
- Please properly declare imports of livestock products such as meat products in your passenger baggage to avoid the penalty.
- The Act on Domestic Animal Infectious Diseases Control stipulates that:
In the case of introducing livestock products without passing import inspection, persons shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to three years or a fine of up to one million yen.
