If you have a driver’s license valid in Japan and is considering renting a car upon arriving in Aichi, then the Central Nippon Expressway Pass - CEP may lead to great savings on toll-roads.
With the CEP, also known in the country as “Hayatabi Pass”, tourists in rented vehicles may enter and exit toll roads as many times as desired without worrying about the fees during the purchased period of days (choose between 2 to 14 days). Also, this handy pass enables you to have easier access to sightseeing place that are not served by public transportation services, such as train or bus.
The CEP can be applied for and purchased at affiliated car rental companies (see the site below for a complete list of dealers) and may be purchase with the optional AIP (Aichi Toll Road Pass) and/or NEP (Nagoya Expressway Pass), allowing for unlimited rides also on the Aichi Prefectural Toll Roads and/or toll roads of the Nagoya Expressway system, respectively.
Notes:
• Passes use Electronic Toll Collection - ETC technology, enabling transactions by a wireless beacon system that does not require the vehicle’s to stop at toll collection gates.
• AIP and NEP not sold alone - must accompany CEP purchases.
• CEP offered by the Nexco Central Concessionary, in charge of highway trunk roads of the Central Japan Region.
• AIP offered by the Aichi Roads Concession Company.
• NEP offered by the Nagoya Expressway Public Company.
• AIP will continue to be offered beyond October 1st, 2016 (initially was scheduled to end on September 30th).
• CEP sales ends on September 30th, 2018.
