Get Fresh Mentaiko Straight from the Factory at This Mouthwatering Holy Ground for Mentaiko Fans
Located in the Rinku area close to Chubu Centrair International Airport, Meitai Park Tokoname is a mentaiko (seasoned and salted pollock roe) theme park operated by long-standing mentaiko manufacturer Kanefuku. Take a free tour of the mentaiko factory, where there are fresh mentaiko products for sale and even a mentaiko museum. A fun place to visit, shop, and eat, this theme park is gaining attention as an exciting place for families, friends, and couples, for everyone from kids to adults.
The building’s distinguishing feature is the bright red tarako-shaped object (salted pollock roe character Tarapiyo) on the roof. The spacious parking lot can also accommodate around 200 vehicles.
One of the highlights here is being able to sample and purchase fresh mentaiko. No matter what, you’ll definitely want to get some mentaiko straight from the factory. Of particular note is the mentaiko that are freshly produced at the factory the same day and which can only be purchased in limited quantities. Mentaiko connoisseurs say that this type of mentaiko is especially delicious and different from what you can find in the refrigerated section of the supermarket.
Gathered together in one place are different sizes and seasonings of mentaiko or tarako products as well as a wide variety of other flavors and types such as mackerel mentai, sardine mentai, squid mentai, mentai sausage, and mentai steamed dumplings, all of which are sure to make you hungry.
Satisfy your appetitie by filling up at the Food Corner. One of the popular items here is the mentaiko rice balls, the size of which are sure to surprise you. Another regular item is the mentai soft serve ice cream, with the addictive granular texture of mentaiko. Draft beer, coffee, and other drinks are also available, perfect for taking a quick break.
If you are curious how the mentaiko sold in the shop is made, you can observe the production process at the Factory Gallery. Through glass windows, you can watch each process, from the preparation of the raw ingredients through to brining, maturing, measuring, shaping, and packaging.
Inside the building is also a mentaiko museum, which introduces the history and production of mentaiko through videos, games, and artifacts.
