View up close the personal effects of Japan's famous children's story writer

This museum commemorates Handa-born children's book writer Nankichi Niimi (or Niimi Nankichi, as is the Japanese order of his name), famous for numerous stories, such as "Gon, the Little Fox". Inside is a library and other facilities as well as year-round exhibits of his handwritten manuscripts, diaries, letters, and other materials in addition to a diorama display created by the author.

The premises also feature a unique landscape with the museum's wavy building and lawn on top, mirroring the geology around it and expressing the nature and scenery of the Chita Peninsula where he lived and his stories took place.
Footpaths are available at the neighboring Fairy Tale Forest, letting you take a leisurely walk as you experience the nature you had only read about in Nankichi's literary works. In fact, this area is said to be the Nakayama castle ruins, where "Gon, the Little Fox" takes place.
