Catch the Trains at the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park

Japan’s extensive, efficient, clean and orderly train services have long been admired around the world. Something else to admire is Nagoya’s dynamic SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, a fascinating hands-on museum looking at the past, present and future of Japan’s railway systems and rolling stock.

You don’t have to be a rail enthusiast to fully enjoy the museum either, as you can see and climb aboard 39 actual steam locomotives, electric and diesel railcars, Tokaido Shinkansen and even the exciting Maglev, Superconducting Magnetically Levitated Vehicle, set to link Nagoya and Tokyo in 40 minutes commencing from 2027!
Other exhibits include the Railway History Room, Rare Train Zone and a fun rail themed Kid's Playroom.

SCMAGLEV and Railway Park

The museum also features a number of World Speed Record setting trains, including the Fastest Narrow Gauge Steam Locomotive, the C62. It also houses Japan's largest train set diorama, and a range of train driving simulators for you to try. The Museum shop sells a wide range of railway souvenirs and memorabilia, and you can keep the tummy (and the kids) quiet with train themed box lunches, sandwiches and drinks from the Delica Station.

Japan’s dynamic railway industry and development have continued to vitalize Japan’s economy and culture, and to provide hope for an exciting future. English audio guides are available for this easy to navigate, well-designed, guaranteed to satisfy, popular attraction. (Talking trains, did you know that Nagoya Station is the world’s largest train station by floor space? True!)
