A Roadside Station featuring a local museum and shopping center appears in Shitara-Town!

A new Roadside Station, or “Michi-no-Eki,” opened in Shitara-Town on Thursday, May 13, 2021!
At this comprehensive facility you can get close to the region’s history and culture through a wooden railroad car display from the former Toyohashi Railway Taguchi Line, a place for experiencing Japanese sake brewing, and the Okumikawa Local History Museum. At the shopping center you can also buy vegetables straight from the farm or purchase a meal.

Facilities Promoting Regional Industry

Facilities here include Seirei Restaurant (Seirei Shokudo) where you can taste menu items made with plenty of local ingredients that can only be found here, Seirei Market (Seirei Ichiba) with rows of regional specialties largely harvested in Shitara-Town, an old Shitara school returning under the name Houraisen Sake Laboratory where you can experience making sake, and the Shitara Town Tourism Association Office.

Okumikawa Museum of Local History (Okumikawa Kyodokan)

Under the overarching theme of “Conveying the Life and Spirit of Okumikawa,” explore various subthemes such as Shitara’s wildlife, the land’s origins, or people’s lives and communities.

Opening hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last admission until 4:30 PM)
Holidays: Tuesday (the following day if Tuesday is a public holiday), year-end and New Years (December 29 to January 3)
Admission fee: Adults 300 yen, elementary school students 150 yen, preschoolers free of charge

Taguchi Line Railroad Car Exhibit

An original Moha 14 wooden railroad car is on display from the former Toyohashi Railroad’s Taguchi Line, which was discontinued in 1968.
