This haiku written by famous poet Matsuo Basho speaks to the shortness of summer nights and the short distance of a mere 16 towns between Akasaka and Goyu (the distance between the administrative toiya offices of both post towns). The poem is immortalized on a stone monument at Sekigawa Jinja Shrine.

The Akasaka Post Town Museum: History, culture, and nature

The Akasaka Post Town Museum is full of everything connected to the history of the Akasaka Post Town on the Old Tokaido Road as well as the history, culture, and nature of Toyokawa City's Otowa area in which the post town was situated. In the center are replicas of ukiyo-e woodblock prints portraying Akasaka Post Town, documents with declarations by the Shogunate, and letters left behind in the post town.
The kabuki dolls, stage props, and more used at Akasaka Stage—a representation of a rural, outdoor shrine stage from the Meiji period—are also on display.

A hatago-style Japanese lodge continuing to tell the story of Akasaka Post Town: Ohashiya Inn

Ohashi Inn (formerly Chiryu Inn) was a hatago-style inn, a variety of lodgings available to travelers from one post town to the next. It is said to have been the model for Ando Hiroshige's Inn Maids at Akasaka Lodge woodblock print from the Tokaido Road's 53 Post Towns collection and that Matsuo Basho stayed and recited a poem there.
The establishment has a long history even going back to when it went by the name of Iemon Chiryuya and today is registered as a municipal cultural property. In 2015, owner Kazuhiro Aoki donated the inn to Toyokawa City, and after renovation from 2017 to 2018, it now acts as a model of what hatago inns would have looked like during the Edo period.

Yoramaikan: A rest stop in the image of Akasaka Post Town's hatago-style inns

The Yoramaikan Rest Stop opened in 2002 as a public rest stop, and was built with the hatago-style inns of the post town as its model and the same architectural methods of the day.
The second floor exhibits ukiyo-e prints featuring Akasaka Post Town and scenes of it as it prospered during the Edo period. Equipped with restrooms and a parking lot as well as benches both inside and out, Yoramaikan acts as the perfect stop during your sightseeing or a stroll through the area.
