Miyoshi-City Ishikawa Family Residence
(Ishikawa-ke Jutaku)

Visit a Traditional Japanese-Style House

The Ishikawa Family Residence was built in 1910 by Aijiro Ishikawa, who was the first mayor of Shin-Miyoshi Village, which in turn was a merger of three villages, Miyoshi, Obu, and Meikoshi. Aijiro's son Masao dwelt there as a branch family, but ultimately Aijiro went to live his later retirement years in that house.
The nagayamon gate, the main house, and the west storehouse still retain the original atmosphere of their construction. On August 19, 2011, it was designated as a Tangible Cultural Heritage Site by Miyoshi City, being donated to the city in November of the same year.
Although it was built during the late Meiji period, it is a traditional Japanese house, and while it has the appearance of a typical private house in the Miyoshi City area, it also shows glimpses of being as influential family's dwelling, such as the tenement gate, several fixtures of the main building, and tatami rooms.
