Aichi Museum of Flight, Experience the Proud History of Aichi's Aerospace Technology

Development and production of Japan’s aerospace industry has long been centered in the advanced manufacturing hub of Aichi Prefecture.
One of the world’s greatest propeller driven fighter aircraft, the formidable Mitsubishi Zero was built in Aichi, along with a number of other wartime aircraft. Many of Japan’s Self Defense Forces’ jet and turboprop aircraft including helicopters are built and maintained in Aichi, where the nation’s first 100% designed and built helicopter, the MH2000 was created. Module parts of the International Space Station, satellite launch rockets and other space hardware is also made in Aichi.

In 2005, the current Centrair International Airport was completed and commenced operations, and so the former Nagoya International Airport became known simply as Nagoya Airport. The former International Terminal was revitalized becoming the popular Airport Walk Nagoya shopping complex.

Aichi Museum of Flight

Complimenting this is the Aichi Museum of Flight featuring displays of retired civil and military prop planes, jets and helicopters, along with a range of entertaining and educational aeronautical attractions including flight simulators.

Aichi Museum of Flight

Opened in 2017 the Aichi Museum of Flight consists of a huge hangar-like building housing a wide range of actual aircraft. Highlights include one of the very few remaining WWII Mitsubishi Zero Fighters, also a YS-11, 1960’s era Japanese made turboprop airliner, and the MH2000, the first 100% Japanese designed and produced helicopter. There’s an MU-2, a high-wing twin-engine turboprop made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries between 1963 and 1986, a Mitsubishi Hawker 400 jet, a former Metropolitan Police Puma helicopter, and a range of various historical aircraft. Another section contains over 100 scale models of various aircraft produced in Japan.

Other facilities include the Science Laboratory, Orientation Theater, rooftop Observation Deck, shops and much more, all conceived to educate and nurture the dreams of the next generation of aerospace engineers and pilots.

SpaceJet Museum & Airport Walk Nagoya Mall

The Aichi Museum of Flight is just a short walk from the Airport Walk Nagoya mall featuring a wide array of shops, restaurants, cafés and entertainment areas built within the former airports’ renovated international terminal.
