Go Crackers at Mihama’s Prawn Cracker Village

The official fish of Aichi Prefecture isn’t a fish, but the prawn. Restaurants across Aichi often feature fried prawns on the menu, or prawns in rice balls. Prawn sushi is a favorite, and so are prawn crackers. In fact, one of the best selling souvenirs from Aichi, and a welcomed gift anywhere in Japan are prawn crackers from Aichi.

One of the best places to get the best of the regional delicacy is at Ebisenbei-no-Sato, or Prawn Cracker Village, in Aichi Prefecture’s ocean side Mihama district on the beautiful Chita Peninsula. Over 20 different types of prawn cracker are made and sold at Prawn Cracker Village, using only the freshest, locally caught prawns. Tour the factory and watch how the many varieties of Aichi’s famed Gourmet Prawn Crackers are prepared, made, baked and packaged on the premises, and then try making your own large, 30cm diameter original soy or sauce flavored prawn cracker. Decorate it with an original picture, bake it in the special oven, then take it home or eat it there! The Make-Your-Own Prawn Cracker experience only takes about 10 minutes, and is open for children as young as 5 years and up with a parent assisting.

The prawn is the fish of Aichi, and prawn crackers from Prawn Cracker Village will make the ideal souvenir of your Aichi adventure.
