Ichinomiya-City, Konan-City Kiso Riverbank Cherry Blossoms
Late Mar–early Apr
A dizzying array of pinks along a dazzling riverside
From Kitagata in Ichinomiya City to Azai in Konan City stretches around nine kilometers of the Kiso River with rows of cherry blossoms along its banks come spring. The cherry trees were planted in 1885, making some of the trees over 100 years old.
Early bloomers such as Higan and weeping cherry tree varieties make way for Somei Yoshino and wild cherry trees which come into bloom, dying the river bank in a dizzying array of pinks. The Kiso Riverbank's cherry blossoms are famous in Japan and regarded as a national monument.
