A historic temple framed by pristine plum blossoms

Around 400 plum trees blossom into beautiful hues all around Iwazu Temmangu Shrine's premises. During the weekends and national holidays throughout the Plum Blossom Festival held from Friday, February 23 (national holiday) to Sunday, March 17, 2024, food trucks make an appearance for even more fun. On Sunday, March 3, a Noto Earthquake Charity Market and Kimono Free Market too are held at the plum tree grove next to the shrine office. And on Sunday, March 10, the Tenjin Market and a bazaar are held.

Plum trees donated from famous Temmangu Shrines around the country are available to view at the Higashiyama Baien area. The areas of Japan and those Temmangu Shrine names are available below:
Kyoto: Kitano Temmangu Shrine / Fukuoka: Dazaifu Temmangu Shrine / Tokyo: Yushima Temmangu Shrine and Kameido Tenjin Shrine / Osaka: Osaka Temmangu Shrine and Domyoji Temmangu Shrine / Kochi: Ushioe Temmangu Shrine / Yamaguchi: Hofu Temmangu Shrine

    • From Higashi Okazaki Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Line (board form Meitetsu Nagoya Station), take the Meitetsu Bus bound for one of the following destinations (look for Bus Stop No. 4 on the north side of Higashi Okazaki Station): Okutono Jinya, Tomei Iwazu, Mikawa-Kamigo Station, Kawamukai, or Asuke. Get off at Iwazu Tenjin-Guchi Bus Stop and walk 12 min. (800 m) east.

    • From Mikawa-Kamigo Station on the Aichi Loop Line (board from Kozoji, Setoshi, Yakusa, Shin-Toyota, Naka-Okazaki, or Okazaki Stations), take the Meitetsu Bus bound for Higashi Okazaki Station. Get off at Iwazu Tenjin-Guchi Bus Stop and walk 12 min. (800 m) east.
