A "power spot" beloved by the islanders, who worship Ise Jingu Shrine from afar from this very location!

Atop the coastal cliffs of Cape Taichi (Taichi Misaki), in the southernmost extremity of Shinojima Island, there's a sacred Tori gate and, right behind it, an observation deck. From here an observer can see the whole coast of Mie Prefecture facing Ise Bay, including the mountains of Ise-City, the islands off the coast of Toba-City to the southwest, and Irago in Atsumi Peninsula, straight to the south.
This place is especially popular for the amazing sights of sunrise and sunset, being included in the ranking of Best 100 Sunset Spots in Japan, and the only entry of Aichi Prefecture.

Certified as "Lover's Sanctuary"

In 2017 the Cape Taichi Kira-Kira Observation Deck was recognized as one of those ideal romantic places for marriage proposal, earning the title of "Lover's Sanctuary". This is boosting its popularity among couples eager to pay a visit!

The gate is made from Ise Shrine's wood!

From this special place, people living in the island periodically do the "Yohai" towards Ise Jingu, which means "worshipping from afar". The observation deck faces Ise Jingu directly, which sits distant 34.05km in a straight line at the other side of Ise Bay, amidst the mountains of Ise-Shima National Park.
Adding to the mystical air of the place, the Torii gate is made from lumber gifted from the demolished remains of Ise Jingu Shrine. Being Japan's most important Shinto shrine, the shrine's structures are build anew from time to time, and the materials resulting from the demolitions are considered to be imbued with special powers.
