Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium takes on the colors of Christmas

From Tuesday, November 26 to Wednesday, December 25, Nagoya's aquarium holds a variety of events for all ages—children to adults—full of the Christmas spirit. Make it out to the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium this year for a Christmas season to remember!

Christmas events

Spotnape ponyfish

Christmas Creature Display: Aqua Christmas 2024
Every year, the Aqua Christmas Creature Display is held to high acclaim. This exhibition displays spotnape ponyfish, known in Japanese as "hiiragi"—the same name for the holly tree—as they resemble holly leaves which were used as ornaments to ward off evil spirits.

• Location: Second floor entrance of the South Building

Tornado of Sardines

Christmas version of the Tornado of Sardines
Enjoy a twisting and twirling tornado of sardines with beautiful Christmas-inspired music and illumination. The first half offers a white Christmas atmosphere with white and blue lighting while the second half brings the warmth of Christmas to life with red and green sparkles of light amid golden tones. Clear, magical vocal background music offers and even more mystical aura.

• Location: Large Kuroshio Tank on the second floor of the South Building
• Time: Differs by day. See the official site's event calendar (Japanese) for details.

Santa diver

Santa diver in the Large Coral Reef Tank
A diver explains all about tropical fish with an underwater camera and mic—all while dressed as Santa!

• Time: 2:30 pm–2:40 pm
• Location: Large Coral Reef Tank on the first floor of the South Building

Christmas wreath

Facility Christmas decorations
Christmas trees, beluga wreaths, and other Christmas ornaments decorate the aquarium. Various event locations around the facility too are steeped in the Christmas mood with guides dressed up in holiday colors!
