Toyohashi-City 31st Futagawa Post Town Honjin Festival (Daimyo Parade)

Date : 11/04/2024

  • 30th Futagawa Post Town Honjin Festival (Daimyo Parade)

An event colorfully portraying the Futagawa Post Town of yesteryear

The town of Futagawa in Toyohashi City was the 33rd of the 53 post town on the Old Tokaido Road, a major highway connecting Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Kyoto. The townscape retains the aura of those days gone by, and for the Futagawa Post Town Honjin Festival, it acts as the stage for a daimyo (feudal lord) procession. This parade enacts the lord of Yoshida Castle (currently Toyohashi Castle), Matsudaira Nobuakira, as he would have come and gone through the former post town.
An antique market, Honjin Teahouse, Japanese taiko drum performance, and other events are held.
