Fumonji Temple boasts 1,300 years of history since its establishment and houses numerous national important cultural properties. This significant temple is known as the Autumn Leaves Temple of Toyohashi and holds its Maple Festival every year from late November to early December, offering the chance to see beautiful Buddhist architecture among beautiful fall leaves.
Fumonji Temple's previous resident priest followed the example of Mt. Takano's custom of using paper cutouts in religious decorations and began offering hand-cut images of Buddhas with commemorative temple stamps, making Fumonji Temple the first temple to do so.

The hand-cut paper images of Fumonji Temple's previous resident priest are available with a special limited-time Japanese maple leaf design available from Friday, November 1.
• Availability: 9:00 am–3:30 pm

Exhibit of Buddhist statues from Fumonji Temple's collection (photography allowed as long as no tripods are used)
Six national important cultural property Buddhist statues and three Aichi Prefecture cultural property Buddhist statues come together for a total of nine on display during the Maple Festival.
Plus, for this year, four other items including the country's oldest vows written on wooden boards for the first time.
• Date and time: 9:00 am–3:30 pm; Sat, Nov 23–Thu, Dec 12, 2024 (available until 3:00 pm)
• Price: JPY 700/person ages 18 and older. Free of charge for ages 17 and younger.

Opening of the Main Hall and Daishi Hall
The Main Hall and Daishi Hall, erected in the Edo period, are usually closed to the public, but open for a limited time.

Temple souvenirs
Get Fumonji Thunder snacks with a sticker designed by Jun Miura and Seiko Ito (planned for sale from late November).
During the Jun Miura and Seiko Ito live See the Buddha talk show held on November 6, 2023, Fumonji Temple received the original artwork for Fumonji Thunder, based on Toyohashi City's famous Black Thunder candy wrapper design. As a thanks to the two artists, sets with special stickers are available for purchase.

Collaborative spring and fall performance

Prunus cerasoides - Wild Himalaya Cherry Blossoms in Autumn at Fumonji Temple - Toyohashi-City

Himalayan cherry blossoms are planted at Fumonji and blossom from late autumn to winter. Their characteristic large, light pink pedals put on a show of absolute natural beauty together with the fall leaves near the main gate.

Notes:
• The nature path from Fumonji Temple to Fumonji Pass was closed on September 1, 2022. You can no longer ascend the mountain from Fumonji Temple or descend to Fumonji Temple from the Main Toyohashi Nature Path or Kosai Mountain Range Hiking Course. Entry into the area outside of the Fumonji Temple premises not allowed.
• Drones may not be flown within the premises.
