- Matsudaira Toshogu Shrine / Matsudaira-Go
A shrine that venerates Matsudaira Chikauji, the earliest ancestor of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Matsudaira clan. The remaining moat and stone walls is said to have been built after the Battle of Sekigahara by Matsudaira Naoyoshi, the 9th head of the Matsudaira Tarozaemon family. The shrine is built on the site of the former Matsudaira clan residence, and a well that was used for generations to wash new born babies of the Matsudaira family is still in tact. The water from this well is said to be beneficial for longevity and for encouraging a safe birth, and is offered as sacred water to worshipers.
