Toyota-City Asuke Townscape
(Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings)
Perfect for a Stroll, an Old Townscape With a Warm, Nostalgic Feel
The charm of Asuke lies not only in its remarkable natural setting, but also in the old townscape where traces of a once flourishing post town remain to this day. Houses built in “tsumairi” or “hirairi” styles, white-walled storehouses, lattice doors, and black wood walls contribute to the atmosphere. Walk slowly along Manrin Alley and other beautiful alleyways enveloped in nostalgic surroundings.
There are also stores brimming with individuality such as Manrin Kura-no-Naka Gallery, a café and gallery located in a restored warehouse built almost 100 years ago, or Asuke-no-Kajiya, a long-established blacksmithy dating back to the end of the Edo period connected to a live café. The entire town comes together for lots of events that can be enjoyed together with the old townscape.
