Japan's first ever reinforced concrete giant Buddha

The Great Buddha of Shurakuen was constructed to commemorate the marriage of Emperor Showa. Its eyes were set in place in 1927, marking the statue's consecration. Even larger than the Great Buddhas of Kamakura and Todaiji Temple at 18.79 meters in height, the statue is a popular symbol of Tokai City. The Shurakuen Park area serves as a relaxing oasis.
