Strawberries
Season: December to May
Aichi Prefecture is famous nationwide for the production of strawberries. One of the varieties grown in great quantities here is Yumenoka, which was developed in Aichi Prefecture. Other strawberry varieties being cultivated are Akihime, Benihoppe, and Tochiotome. Grape cultivation also thrives in Aichi Prefecture. Here the main production is centered around Kyoho grapes, which are purplish black with large seeds. Mandarin Oranges

A classic Japanese fruit, mandarin oranges are known as mikan in Japanese, which literally means “a citrus fruit as sweet as honey.” In Aichi Prefecture, mandarin oranges cultivated in greenhouses are harvested from early summer to autumn, while mandarin oranges cultivated outdoors are harvested from autumn to winter. Gamagori Greenhouse mandarin oranges from Gamagori City and Mihamakko from Mihama Town are famous brands throughout Japan. Mandarin oranges grown in greenhouses have thin peels, tender flesh, and a refreshing sweetness.
