The area surrounding the Nagoya Airfield has been receiving a lot of worldwide attention as the "Home of the MRJ" (Mitsubishi Regional Jet), the first commercial jet airliner produced in Japan, due to the fact that several of its development and manufacturing facilities are within that area. This makes it a unique location in the country.
On November 30th, 2017 the brand new Aichi Museum of Flight inaugurated featuring a huge hangar-like building housing real aircraft, such as the YS-11, a turboprop airliner made in Japan during the 60's by the Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation consortium, and the MU-2, a high-wing, twin-engine turboprop aircraft made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries from 1963 to 1986.
