Toyota-City Sanshu Asuke Yashiki
Passing on Traditional Handicrafts to Today's Generations Through Demonstrations and Hands-On Experiences
Sanshu Asuke Yashiki's policy is "to create life's necessities by ourselves." This is a living history museum where the lives of mountain farmers are re-enacted using the original tools. You can experience handicraft that is disappearing from Japan such as weaving, indigo dyeing, straw craft, and blacksmithing, so give it a try.
Near the entrance is Hinoki-Chaya Restaurant, which offers local dishes such as gohei-mochi (grilled rice cake on a stick), sweetfish grilled with salt, and soba or udon noodles. At Katakago Café, you can drink coffee made from beans roasted in-house with charcoal from Sanshu Asuke Yashiki.
